Ryan Cassidy

Head Coach

rcassidy@latinschool.org

Coach Ryan has been working with CLSC since 2023. Previously, he served as an assistant coach at Bryn Mawr College, primarily working with the distance group. During his time working with Bryn Mawr, he helped to guide a swimmer to the second-highest finish in a distance event in program history. Coach Ryan has also worked as a USA Swimming Club Coach with Friends’ Central Aquatics in the Philadelphia area. He is a Summa Cum Laude & Phi Beta Kappa graduate of Hamilton College, where he was a member of the Men’s Swim Team, serving as team captain during his senior year. He achieved Hamilton all-time Top 10 times in four different events while at college, and scored points in every conference championship event in which he competed. Coach Ryan also holds an MFA in acting with distinction from DePaul university, and works onstage and on camera as a professional actor. He hails from Philadelphia and is a massive Eagles fan!

Gustavo Ruiz

Assistant Swim & Water Polo Coach

gruiz@latinschool.org

Coach Gustavo began swimming competitively in seventh grade and continued through high school, where he placed in the top 10, 5, and 3 at the PR Championships in multiple events. His strongest strokes are butterfly, freestyle, and long-distance swimming, and he even qualified for the Pan American Games in long-distance free. In college, Coach Gustavo transitioned to water polo, playing for two years while also helping teammates improve their swimming technique, drills, and conditioning.

After college, he returned to the sport by teaching swimming for a private company that offered lessons to students of all ages — from young beginners to adults. Coach Gustavo continues to train regularly to stay connected to the sport and lead by example. Coach Gustavo is grateful for the opportunity to share his passion for swimming and work alongside an incredible team of coaches and athletes at Latin.

Clare Jorgensen

Assistant Swim Coach

cjorgensen@depaulprep.org

Coach Clare is from Blue Island, Illinois, and discovered her love for swimming at just nine years old when she joined her local club team. After six years with that club, she went on to swim all four years for her high school team. In college at Marquette University, Coach Clare continued her passion for the sport as a member of the club swim team. During her summers, she worked as a lifeguard and taught swim lessons, helping others build confidence and develop their swimming skills. Her favorite events are anything backstroke and the 500 freestyle!

Bill Sindewald

Head Water Polo Coach

bsindewald@latinschool.org

Coach Bill Sindewald believes water polo can change lives. With more than 20 years in the sport as both a player and competitor, he brings experience, energy, and genuine passion to his role as Head Coach of Roman Water Polo. A former All-State player at Carl Sandburg High School, Coach Bill went on to serve as captain of the University of Iowa Water Polo Club and continued playing, coaching, and mentoring athletes at Augustana, Carl Sandburg, and DePaul. Since joining Roman Water Polo in 2022, he has been passionate about helping athletes grow in both skill and confidence.

Coach Bill believes sports teach far more than athletic skill — they build confidence, resilience, teamwork, and character. His philosophy is simple: sports is life, and life is sports. Outside of coaching, he stays active in the swimming community as a member of the Chicago Smelts and through open-water events such as Big Shoulders and the Chicago River Swim, which support ALS research and youth swim programs. He is proud to help Roman Water Polo grow into a place where athletes can develop as both players and people. For Coach Bill, there is nothing more rewarding than helping kids find their confidence.
